Etymology

OE  hwēol -denu , 'wheel-valley,' v. denu . The wheel or circle may refer to the very definite curve which the valley makes as Whielden St comes out of Amersham and becomes Whielden Lane leading towards Wycombe. Cf. hweol -riðig (BCS 216).
