Etymology

This is a manorial name, the hill taking its name from a family who belonged to Weedon-in-the-Vale supra . Ralph de Wedona is mentioned in 1218 (Bract ii. 7) in connexion with Amersham. The association of the family with Amersham goes back however much further for Almar was an undertenant in both Amersham and Weedon (then in Hardwick) in DB (243 b and 244 a ).
