Etymology

'Royal manor', v. cyning , tūn , a common name which occurs three times in this county. KCD 1276 records the gift of this manor by King Edward to Bishop Ælfstan. In 1086 it was held by Ralph de Bagpuize . There are earlier references to Kingston (958 and 959) in the bounds of Longworth, v. Pt 3.
