Etymology

Hull (lost), Hulla 1166 (13th) RBE, Hulle 1263 Ipm, 1275 Abbr, 1429 AD, la Hulle 1283–4FF , 1294 Ipm, 1323, 1349, 1364 AD, la Hull 1316 FA. In VCH iv, 203, it is stated that this estate was probably in the S.W. corner of the parish, near Hamspray W. 'At the hill', v. hyll , possibly with reference to the steep escarpment marked Inkpen Hill on the O.S. maps.
