Etymology

Netherton, cf. Netherton , Fyfhyde Overton , Fyfhyde Netherton 1553LRMB , Netherton 1596StJohnSurvey , 1669 Moulton. Fyfhyde Overton is presumably the village of Fyfield. Netherton is in the valley of a small stream. The charter bounds of Fyfield show that in the 10th cent, it contained two estates, the boundary of which ran between Fyfield and Netherton, v. Pt 3.
