Etymology

'Valley of the people of Herela', v. -inga-, denu . This unrecorded OE pers.n. occurs in a number of p.ns., v. BdHu 124, where it is suggested that it went out of use at an early period, and also that the distribution shows it to be definitely Anglian. The last suggestion requires modification in view of its occurrence in this Berks name.
