Etymology

'Ceawa's tumulus', hlāw, hlǣw . The pers.n. occurs in a number of p.ns. It is possible to place this tumulus with some precision, as it is mentioned in the bounds of Denchworth in BCS 833 and 1034.It was on the boundary of Challow and Denchworth, between Childrey Brook and Land Brook, probably nearer the latter. A perambulation of this boundary in 1953 revealed no trace of it.
