Etymology

Rowbury Fm, Roughborowe cop '1538RentSur , copic ' vocat ' the Rowborough 1550LRMB , Rowbury Fm and Copse 1830 OS. The 'rough hill' was the meeting place of one of the hundreds later merged in Faircross Hundred, v. 231. Rowbury Fm is situated on a gentle slope, and it is possible that the beorg was a tumulus, not a natural hill.
