Historical Forms

  • Colemer 1242–3 Fees

Etymology

Coombesbury Fm, possibly Colmeresbere c. 1180 (13th) Abingdon, Colemer 1242–3 Fees. The forms are insufficient for a definite etymology. The earlier one suggests a name meaning 'cool pond' (v. cōl 2 , mere , and cf. Colmore Ha), to which has been added bearu 'grove'. The O.S. maps do not show any pools near the farm.
