Etymology

The first el. of the n. must be compared with that of Tiddingford Hill in Linslade, Bk 81, Yttingaford in 906. We appear to have a pers.n. Ytting and a folk-name Yttingas , both derivatives of a pers.n. Ytta , which is not evidenced, but cf. Utta , Redin 112. The -tt - precludes association with Ȳte , the late WSaxon form of Bede's Iutae , the Jutes, a pers.n. from which may be found in Ytingstoce , BCS 1054, now Bishopstoke Ha. The T - of Titlar and Tiddingford is the -t of at .
