Other OS name in the Parish of Rotherham

Etymology

, 1822 Langd ; this place and Lapwater251infra are both on high ground near springs , and the name no doubt means simply ' drinking water, water that can be lapped ' , from ME  lappe ( from OE  lapian ' to lap ' ) and wæter ; the location rules out OE  læppa ' border, boundary ' .
