Etymology
, 1859OS , Crundall 1265 Pat (p), Crundale 1684BdyR ,Crundal bank 1841TA ; although an old limestone quarry stands at the head of this small valley , we are unlikely to have OE crundel ' quarry ' , as that word has a southern and south - western provenance and so far is not found north of Wo ; the name means ' crookedvalley ' ( v. crumb , dæl ) , a fitting description .
