Etymology
'Farmstead amongst the broom', v. brōm , tūn . The forms Bram (p )-, etc. arise from the early shortening of -ō - to -o -, which was then represented by -a - before nasals as is usual in NCy p.ns. (cf. Bramley, Brampton, etc. YW vii, 87 §29, and Phonol. §16).
