, two ditch - like hollows , one running from an old lead - mine at grid 84 – 798278 , the other ( like Knock Hush ii, 116infra ) running from an old dam at grid 83 – 715285 to Swindale Beck ; both were water channels created by ' hushing ' or sending water from a dam over the ground to uncover or separate ore from the lead mines of the district ( v. NED s.v. hush sb 3, vb 3, chieflyNCy dial. ) , cf. Silver Band (ii, 121infra ) .
