Etymology

OE  ticcenes-hyrst , 'kid's wood,' v. ticcen , hyrst . For early loss of n , cf. Titchfield (Ha), Ticcenesfeld in 909 (BCS 629), Ticefelle in DB. s for ch is due to AN influence (cf. IPN 100 ff.).The normal development would be to Titchurst or Tishurst and the long vowel must be a spelling-pronunciation.
