Etymology

'(At the) new tūn,' v. nīwe . The suffix Juel is explained by D. Royce (Oxfordshire Archæological Society Transactions for 1875), as from a family named Ivaus (Ralph Ivaus is mentioned 43 Hy 3) or Ivals , whose name appears as Jewell in Harl. MSS 1187, f. 93b.
