Etymology

'The farmstead, village where thorn-trees grow', v. þorn , tūn .Forms in T - for Th - are due to AN influence, v. Feilitzen 100. It may be noted that the wealth of documentation for this name is in large measure due to the fact that it was the site of an important abbey. The origin of Curtis is unknown.
