Etymology
( lost ) , 1851, 1871Census , Cleethorpes Beacon 1835 Baker ; this was an area around Clee Ness (B.W.) . It was named from a white beacon erected in 1834 by the Admiralty to cut down the large number of wrecks in the Humber , opposite what is now Poplar Road . It was demolished in 1864 , v. Baker 61–62 . This is a very late example of þorp in north L , but common in Cleethorpes , v. Fore Thorpe,etc. , infra .
