Etymology

( lost ) , unam fistulam vocatam Fether 1389, 1391 RBBr iii, 192–4 ; this would appear to be a much earlier use of ModE  feeder in the sense of ' a channel giving a supply ofwater ' ( NED s.v. 1795 ) ; it was a pipe ( Lat  fistula ) connected with the town 's water supply , and not the canal and feeder which short - circuited the Avon on the east ( 1830 M ) .
