Haddon Lodge

Other OS name in the Parish of Stourton Caundle

Etymology

, probably a manorial name from the Haddon family , lords of the manor in the 13th cent. , v. Hutch3 3664 and par . name supra ; however it is possible that Haddon 1202 FF (p) , etc , was originally a local p.n. , ' heather-covered hill ' from hǣð and dūn , from which the family took its name ; the lodge is on the same hill as Cockhill Fm supra .
