Etymology

Bilcombe Copse (ST 702154), Bylecumbe , Balecoumbe 1280Ass (p), Bylecomb (')1327SR (p), 1332 SR (p), Belcom Close , Belscomb Close , Bellcom medow 1709WRO , 'Bil(l)a's valley', from an OE  pers.n. Bil (l )a (suggested for Bilborough Nt 140, Bilham YW 186, etc) and cumb . The variant spelling with -a - in 1280 (both forms refer to the same man) is no doubt an error.
