, so named because the lane ( Piddle-lane 1824 Pigot ) runs SE to Piddletrenthide par . infra and the wood lies beside the lane . It was noted by M.H . in 1975 that the roadsign for Piddle Lane had been removed , whether by a souvenir hunter or a bowdleriser , cf. the 1956 controversy regarding the names of villages in the Piddle valley 1 315 .
