Etymology

Hackthorn (6″) is le Hakthorn 1360, Hackethorn 1617WinchColl .It may be that there was in OE  a compound haca -þorn , 'hook- thorn,' corresponding to the Dutch  haakedorn . Cf. also Hackthorn (L), Hagetorne 1086 DB, Hacatorn , Hachatorna , Hachetorna c. 1116 Lindsey Survey.
