Etymology

Abberd Wood. Cf. Abbreya 1227 Ch, Abrie 1227 FF, Aubred 1245 WM xvi, 1264 Ipm, Abbride 1273 Ipm, Abbard 1536MinAcct , Abberde 1548 Pat, Great Abberd 1555 ib. This was originally a stream-name, v. supra 1. Probably from OE  Abban rīð 'Abba 's stream,' v. rið .
