Arnstone (lost), Arnestan (e )1170–84 Kend i, 388, 1282 HMC x, 324, 1333 Kend i, 223, Arnestein 1196 FF, Ernestan 1175–84 Kend i, 388. 'Rock haunted by an eagle', v. earn (ON  ǫrn ), stān (influenced by ON  steinn); the rock was on the bounds of Fawcett Forest and Whinfell.
