Osgathorpe Ho, Osgottorp 12 Hlm, Hosgerthorp 1260 Hlm (p), Osegerthorp 1291 YI, Osgettorp 1297 LS (p), Osgerthorp 1397 Hlm, Osgathorp (e )1441 SheffMan, Osgathorp (e ) hill 1593 WillY, Osgathorp (e ) Milles 1642 ib, Osgarthorp (e )1451 FA, 1538, 1574 FF. 'Ōsgār's outlying farm' from the OE  pers.n. Ōsgār or an anglicised form of ON  Ásgeirr , and þorp, though one or two spellings rather suggest Osgot , an anglicised form of ON  Ásgautr .
