Etymology

'Church farm', v. kirkju-. This may be one of the two churches ascribed to Whixley in DB (cf. Skaife 177 n.), and is presumably that of Little Ouseburn. For the affixes cf. Little Ouseburn (infra ) and Cattal 17infra ; v. hall 'hall'. The site of the depopulated village is unknown (YAJ xxxviii, 234).
