Etymology

Ouse Gill, Ouse Gill Beck, Usekeld Beck 1770EnclA , Ousegill Head 1771 M, Ousegill Carr 1801EnclA , Ouse Gill Field, 1801EnclA , Usekeld Field 1770 ib. 'Spring or source of the R. Ouse', v. Ouseburn supra , kelda , the latter being replaced by gil 'ravine', which is not, however, original, as it is topographically inappropriate.
