Etymology

'Broad stretch of open countryside', v. brād , feld . This large township was formerly divided into four bierlows (v. býjar-lǫg and Brampton Bierlow 106supra ), Bradfield, Dungworth, Waldershelf (now in Stocksbridge 257infra ) and Westnall .
