Etymology

Holme, Holm (e )1086 DB, 12Sawl 8, 1195–9 ib 7et freq to 1592 WillY, the Holme 1593 PRBlt, Houlme 1609 ib. v. holmr 'water- meadow'. The farmstead is high on the hill-side and the name must therefore have referred to meadowland by New Gill Beck.
