Etymology

'Hūnburg's homestead', from the OE  fem. pers.n. Hūnburg and hām (a rare el. in YW). The single spelling with Hulber - is AN  for Hunber - (cf. Hunsingore v, 19supra for a similar change and IPN 106 for other parallels). The loss of -n - before the labial occurs also in compounds like stān -ford (cf. EPN ii, 143), but may in this case have been assisted by the ME  pers.n. Hubert ; cf. also Keresforth i, 302supra .
