Etymology

Thistleworth Fm is Thystylworth in 1518–29 (ECP 5, 465), Thiselworth in 1606 (SRS 14, 140) and probably gave name to Stephen de Thystelesworthe (1327 SR). No pers. name Thystel is known so probably the genitival s in the earliest form is an error. Hence, 'thistle-enclosure,' v. worþ .
