Etymology

Greatham Fm and Littleham Fm, known locally as 'Great and Little Ham Fms,' are referred to in the pers. name Hamme in 1271Ass , and in the p.n. Hamme in LibC (c. 1380). Great Ham Fm lies in the great bend formed by Broad Rife and may be from OE  hamm used of land so situated, or it may be simply the word hamm used in the sense of 'enclosure, fold.'
