Dragons and Dragons Green
Early-attested site in the Parish of Shipley
Etymology
According to local legend a dragon haunted St Leonard's Forest. St Leonard is said to have slain him, and patches of lilies of the valley sprang up where the saint's blood was spilled (cf. Hopkins, Sussex Pilgrimages 114). As however the pers. name Dragon is found in Roffey not so very far off, the p.n. may have a less romantic origin.
