Historical Forms
- Batte 1419 FF
- Breedenbridge 1579 DuLa
- Breden bridge 1613 FM
Etymology
Batt's Bridge (6″) is to be associated with William Batte (1419 FF). In 1546 (FM ) we have mention of 'a messuage sometime William Batts ' at Braddenbredge (Breedenbridge in 1579DuLa , Breden bridge in 1613FM ). This is clearly another and probably earlier name for the bridge. It means 'bridge made of bredes (or planks),' v. Bridenbridge (PN Wo 359).
