Etymology

The OE  name was probably Holingatun meaning 'farm of the dwellers in the hollow,' though the application to the site is not clear. v. holh , ing , tun and cf. Hollingbourne (K), Holungaburna KCD 722. Hollington is called the vill of St Rumbold (1262 Ipm) or St Rombold (1562 FF).See Dawson, Hastings Castle 471 (J.E.R.).
