Etymology

We suffer here from the absence of any really early forms.Professor Ekwall suggests that the first element is OE  Frīges , gen. sg. of Frēo , a possible pet-form for such an OE  name as Frēo -helm . Hence, 'Freo's farm,' v. tun .
