St Anthonys Hill is Antenye 1249 Ch, DuLa , 13thLewes , Anthony Hill 1564DuLa , St Anthonies Hill 1624 Lease , Anthon Hill 1823 G. The first element in this name must be a pers. name Anta , not on independent record in OE  but found in Antan hlaw (BCS 246) and in Antingham (Nf), DBAntingham , Antigeham . The second is eg , from the island-like character of the hill, rising above the levels surrounding it. There is no authority for the hagiologising of the name.
