Etymology

This doubtless contains the pers. name Wenna noted under Wennington (PN BedsHu 221). This in Sussex would often take the form Wænna , accounting for the forms in Wan -, v. Introd. xxvii. The same pers. name is found in Wanegrave , Wenegrave (1302, 1331 Ipm), an unidentified place in West Sussex and in Wenbons infra 387. The modern development is quite irregular.'Bank (v. ora) of Wænna 's people.'
