Etymology

v. burh , ham(m). The DB form already shows confusion of beorg and burh , cf. Barpham supra 164 and Burleigh infra 280.There is an ancient earthwork here which perhaps guarded the passage of the Arun. Burpham (Sr) and Burham (L) have the same history.
