Etymology

Speldridge (lost) is Spelterche (c. 1290 SAC 6, 134, 1320 Ch), Speldredge (1556 SRS 29). It is probably a compound of OE  speld , 'wood-splinter,' found also in Spilshill (K), Speldgisella (BCS 343) and ersc, descriptive perhaps of an ersc by woodland.
