Riddles Down is Ridelesdoune 1331, Redele 1338ChertseyReg , North Ridle 1422 SAC vi, Riddeleys , Northriddeley 1461Chertsey , Riddles Downs 1765 R, Ridley or Riddles Down 1809 M and B.This is probably a compound of ME  ridde and leah. Hence 'cleared woodland.' There are bare chalk downs here.
