Etymology

Old Grange Fm (6″). Cf. (grange of) Olewelle late 12thAOMB , Holewelle c. 1166 Madox, (grange of) Holewelle 1278–9 RH. The early name means 'spring in a hollow,' v. holh , w(i)elle. There is a spring in Hill Bottom a little to the south. For other occurrences of the name, v. supra 325.
