Historical Forms

  • (field called) le Lobbe c.1300 Bodl

Etymology

Lobb Fm is so named 1797 Davis. It takes name from Lobbe 1208 (early 13th) Thame, (field called ) le Lobbe c. 1300Bodl . The name suggests the dialect word lob , 'a lump, a large amount, a wide extent or surface', but there is nothing in the topography to indicate the relevance of such an etymology. Cf. PN D 33.
