Etymology

'Five hides,' v. hīd . Groups of five, of ten, and other multiples of ten hides were common, and have given rise to the various Fyfields and Fiveheads, and to such names as Tinhead W and Piddle Trenthide Do. Merrymouth etc. from the family which has given its name to the Merrimouth Inn.
