Etymology

'Lēodwine 's stone.' Ekwall (DEPN) considers that this name contains the parish name Enstone with a distinguishing prefix. But there is a monolith at Lidstone, as well as one at Enstone, and another quite near to Broadstonehill. It seems reasonable, therefore, to interpret the three names separately as having only the element stān in common.
