Etymology

Medley Manor Fm (6″), Medley Weir take name from (insula q. v .) Middeleya 1147 Oset freq with variant spellings Middeleia , Middeley to 1320 Ch, Middeneya 1155 (13th), 1191 Os, Midelheit 1191 Oset freq with variant spellings Middelhait , Myddelleyt , Middeleit to 1480 Frid, Middeneia 1320 Ch, Midley 1507–8 Os. 'Middle island,' v. (ī)eg.It is between Osney and Binsey. Some of the forms have ME  eyt, 'islet,' as second element, cf. Langney supra ; and some have apparently the weak dative singular of the OE  adjective midde , as first element, instead of middel .
