Etymology

Stepnell Spinney (6″) is Stepenhul 1343 XtCh, Stepenhul , Stepunhull , 15thDaventry . 'Steep hill,' a compound of hyll and OE  stēap . This may possibly be one of the two 'little beorgas ' mentioned in the Badby Charter (supra 10).
