Etymology

'(At) the buildings' v. boðl ; the name is from the OE  dat. plur. bōðlum . The modern form of the name has arisen from the dialectal change of OE ō to [iu] and later to [iə] in this part of the North Riding. The modern form with -d - has come from an AN  form Bodium (v. IPN 110).
