Etymology

Minchendon is Mincenden 1682 Morgan, Mincington Hall 1750 Seale, Minchenden 1795 Lysons. Cf. also Menechenfeld 13th AD i. The first element is myncen , 'nun.' The names probably refer to land in the parish held by the nuns of Clerkenwell. So similarly Minchinhampton (Gl), Mincing Lane (City).
